Description

रुपा (Rupa) is a Marathi novel by Anna Bhau Sathe. It was first published in 1945 by Akshay Prakashan. The novel tells the story of Rupa, a young woman who is forced to marry a man she does not love. Rupa's story is one of oppression, resilience, and ultimately, triumph. The novel is set in rural Maharashtra in the early 20th century. Rupa is a beautiful and intelligent young woman, but she is born into a poor family. Her father, a farmer, dies when she is young, and her mother is unable to provide for her. Rupa is forced to work as a servant in order to support herself. One day, Rupa is approached by a wealthy landowner named Bhaskarrao. Bhaskarrao is immediately smitten with Rupa, and he proposes marriage. Rupa is hesitant at first, but she eventually agrees to marry Bhaskarrao in order to escape her poverty. Bhaskarrao is a kind and generous man, but he is also a traditional Hindu. He expects Rupa to be a submissive wife, and he is not happy when she refuses to conform to his expectations. Rupa's relationship with Bhaskarrao becomes increasingly strained, and she eventually leaves him. Rupa returns to her village, where she finds work as a teacher. She becomes a successful teacher, and she is eventually able to support herself and her family. Rupa's story is one of hope and inspiration. It shows that even in the face of oppression, it is possible to find strength and resilience. Rupa is a classic Marathi novel that has been translated into several languages. It is a powerful story of a woman's struggle for independence and self-determination.
